She wanted to help disabled people, so she went to school to learn how to make things easier. She went to Wales and Ireland to look at different rehabilitation engineering facilities as part of her research. Also, she loved her job as a rehabilitation engineer because it was related to what she was interested in.
Melanie has a Bachelor’s and a Master’s in System Engineering from The Australian National University. While in school, she attended events held by the Australian National University Mountaineering Club and the National University Caving Club. The engineer has also made things for outdoor activities, like kayaks and paddles.
Melanie and her twin sister Peta like to help people because it makes their lives easier. Both sisters are also members of the non-government group Little People of New Zealand. LPNZ is a group of little people, their families, and others who care about their well-being and get together on their own time.

Kiruna Stamell married Gareth in 2012. Gareth is an actor, writer, and comedian.
